History vs. fiction
Duke Hui of Jin captured at Hanyuan
The two books record this famous battle without discrepancy. The Records of the Grand Historian, 'Annals of Qin', states the time and place of the battle: 'On Renxu day of the ninth month, he joined battle with Duke Hui of Jin, Yiwu, at the place of Han.' In the Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms, chapter 45, this past event is also mentioned through a character's words: 'Moreover, when Duke Hui of Jin was captured by Qin, the Qin ruler treated him with courtesy and sent him back. Qin's courtesy towards us was like this.'
