History vs. fiction
The death of King Min of Qi is dramatized and exaggerated in the novel, adding the plot of pulling out his tendons alive.
- based on factHow was King Min of Qi killed?
The Records of the Grand Historian, 'Hereditary House of Tian Jingzhong Wan', only records: 'Chu sent Nao Chi to lead troops to rescue Qi, and he became the prime minister of King Min of Qi. Nao Chi then killed King Min and divided the invaded land and booty with Yan.' However, in the Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms, Chapter 95, the tragic scene of his tendons being pulled out is added: 'Nao Chi first killed Yi Wei, then pulled out the king's tendons alive, hung them on the beam, and only after three days did he die.'
