History vs. fiction
Did King Xiang of Qi ever enfeoff Tian Dan as Lord of Anping?
The Records of the Grand Historian, 'Hereditary House of Tian Jingzhong Wan', clearly records that King Xiang of Qi (Fazhang), as the son of King Min of Qi, was sought out by the people of Qi when the state was in ruin, and 'together they established him as King of Qi, posthumously known as King Xiang.' Meanwhile, the Records of the Grand Historian, 'Biography of Tian Dan', details that after his accession, he 'appointed Tian Dan as prime minister, titled Lord of Anping.' The novel Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms narrates the events of King Xiang's accession and the enfeoffment of Tian Dan, which completely conform to the authentic historical records, with no fictional elements by the novelist.
