A general of Cao Wei, killed by Guan Yu. A Wei general, preferred death over surrender, killed by Guan Yu. Initially followed Ma Teng, later surrendered to Cao Cao, killed by Guan Yu at the Battle of Fancheng.
In fiction · Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Pang De initially served as a commandant under Ma Chao, then followed Ma Chao to surrender to Zhang Lu. After Zhang Lu's defeat, he surrendered to Cao Cao. At the Battle of Ruxu, he killed Chen Wu; at the Battle of Hanzhong, he rescued Cao Cao. During the Battle of Xiangfan, he fought with his coffin, shot and wounded Guan Yu, but was captured when the Seven Armies were flooded, and was executed without yielding.

History vs. fiction
The novel preserves the contrast between Pang De's refusal to surrender and Yu Jin's submission.
In the novel's depiction of the Battle of Xiangfan, "Yu Jin prostrated himself on the ground, begging for mercy and pleading for his life," while Pang De "stood upright and refused to kneel." The Records of the Three Kingdoms also records, "Yu Jin then surrendered, only Pang De remained unyielding and died." When Cao Cao learned of this, he lamented, "I have known Yu Jin for thirty years, how could he, in the face of danger and difficulty, prove inferior to Pang De!" The novel faithfully reproduces the contrast in moral integrity between the two men as recorded in official history.
