A general of Wu who died in battle; a general of Eastern Wu who followed Sun Ce across the river and died at Hefei. A subordinate of Sun Ce, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant General and died at Hefei.
In fiction · Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Chen Wu was a general of Eastern Wu. He once received Zhou Yu and served as the vanguard. Later, he led warships to receive Huang Gai, participated in an ambush, and was ordered to pursue Liu Bei. With Pan Zhang, he led archers and crossbowmen to shoot at Cao Cao. In Sun Quan's army, he served as the central army. When fighting with Pang De, his sleeve was caught by a tree, and he was killed by Pang De.

The process of Chen Wu's death in battle at Hefei

The official history, Records of the Three Kingdoms, in the biography of Cheng, Huang, Han, Jiang, Zhou, Chen, Dong, Gan, Ling, Xu, Pan, Ding, only records that Chen Wu 'in the twentieth year of Jian'an, followed the attack on Hefei, fought desperately and died in battle,' without mentioning the specific cause of death or his opponent. Romance of the Three Kingdoms, in Chapter 68, fictionalizes that in the chaos of battle, 'Pang De chased him to the valley mouth, where the woods were dense; Chen Wu wanted to turn back to fight, but a tree caught his sleeve, preventing him from facing the enemy, and he was killed by Pang De,' giving his death a highly dramatic account.
