Sent as an envoy to Wu, he engaged in witty repartee with Zhuge Ke. As an envoy of Shu Han, he showed his talent in repartee with Zhuge Ke. As a general of Shu, he played Go with Lai Min.
In fiction · Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Originally a subordinate of Liu Zhang, he later surrendered to Liu Bei. He successively held the positions of Shizhong and Shangshu Ling. He was sent to Zhuge Liang's camp and then on a mission to Eastern Wu. He was appointed by Zhuge Liang's dying order as his successor. He advised Jiang Wei not to launch expeditions.

History vs. fiction
Fei Yi was assassinated by Wei defector Guo Xun while heavily intoxicated.
Historical fact. The novel describes Fei Yi being assassinated in autumn at Liubei Pool while heavily intoxicated. Chen Shou's Records of the Three Kingdoms clearly records: 'In the sixteenth year, at the New Year's assembly, Wei defector Guo Xun was present. Yi drank joyfully and became drunk, and was killed by Xun's hand.' The core events are completely consistent.
