In fiction · Journey to the West
Master of Wuzhuang Guan, ancestor of earthly immortals. Because Wukong knocked down the ginseng fruit tree, he captured Tang Sanzang and his disciples, binding the four of them. Later he became sworn brothers with Sun Wukong and entertained them for several days.
History vs. fiction
The title of Zhenyuan Daxian as the ancestor of earthly immortals is a fictional creation of the novel.
In Chapter 024 of "Journey to the West," the Great Immortal Zhenyuan of the Wuzhuang Temple on Mount Wanshou is described as the ancestor of earthly immortals, possessing the ginseng fruit tree. The original text reads: "那万寿山有座五庄观，镇元大仙你曾会他么？”" It also states: "镇元子乃地仙之祖，我也让他三分，你怎么就打伤他树？" (Journey to the West, Chapter 026). This immortal's great power and title are not recorded in orthodox Daoist scriptures; it is a fictional creation of the novel.
