History vs. fiction
The specific circumstances of obtaining the Heshibi are different
The Records of the Grand Historian, Biography of Lian Po and Lin Xiangru, only briefly records that 'During the time of King Huiwen of Zhao, he obtained the Chu Heshibi.' The Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms, Chapter 96, records in detail that Miao Xian bought the Heshibi with five hundred gold pieces and then refused to present it. The King of Zhao, taking advantage of a hunting trip, 'suddenly entered Xian's house, searched his rooms, found the treasure box, and took it away,' seizing the jade by force.
