Discrepancy in the concurrent appointment of the left or right post when promoted from Palace Secretary to Vice Commissioner of Military Affairs
History of Song, Taizong Basic Annals II records: 'In the summer, the fourth month, on the guisi day of the first month, the Palace Secretary Zhao Changyan was appointed as Right Remonstrance Advisor and Vice Commissioner of Military Affairs.' However, in the History of Song, Biographies of Zhang Hong, Zhao Changyan, Chen Shu, Wei Yu, Liu Shi, Liu Changyan, Zhang Ji, and Li Weiqing, it is recorded as Left Remonstrance Advisor: 'When the war was launched in the north, Vice Commissioner of Military Affairs Zhang Hong remained silent and held his position, while Changyan repeatedly submitted memorials on border affairs. Taizong then appointed Changyan as Left Remonstrance Advisor, replacing Hong as Vice Commissioner of Military Affairs, and later promoted him to Vice Minister of Works.'
