Chancellor of the previous dynasty; Emperor Taizong bestowed palace timber. Former chancellor. He argued that the old laws were too severe and proposed reducing the fifty articles on capital punishment.

Wei Zheng, as chancellor of the Tang Dynasty, once suggested opening the examination grounds and recommended Chen Guangrui to be the prefect of Jiangzhou. Later, by heavenly mandate, he beheaded the Jing River Dragon King in a dream and sent a letter to Cui Jue in the underworld. He also requested to verify the princess and participated in the selection of monks.

History vs. fiction
Wei Zheng is transformed into a human official in the novel, but in official history he is a remonstrating minister
The official history "Old Book of Tang" records that Wei Zheng was a famous upright minister and chancellor during Emperor Taizong's reign, stating: "贞观三年，迁秘书监，参预朝政。" (Old Book of Tang, Biography of Wei Zheng). However, in Chapter 10 of "Journey to the West", he becomes a remarkable figure who also serves as the official of the human realm, able to execute the Jing River Dragon King in a dream by heavenly decree.
