History vs. fiction
A key minister of Shu Han in the southern regions, respected by the local tribes, who was captured and released seven times by Zhuge Liang.
The Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Shu, Biography of Zhuge Liang, Pei's annotation cites the Han-Jin Spring and Autumn Annals recording Zhuge Liang's southern campaign, capturing and releasing Meng Huo seven times to win his heart, and the southern region was thus pacified. The original text: 「七纵七禽，而亮犹遣获。获止不去，曰：“公，天威也，南人不复反矣。”」（Source: Book of Shu, Biography of Zhuge Liang.txt）
