Xu Sheng was from Langya, defected to Sun Quan, and became a general of Eastern Wu. Once ordered by Zhou Yu to pursue Kongming, but was shot by Zhao Yun to break the sail rope; charged into Li Dian's army and was rescued by Zhou Tai. Later followed Lü Meng to attack Jingzhou and participated in besieging Guan Yu. During the Battle of Yiling, he served as Lu Xun's guard and participated in the fire attack. When Cao Pi invaded Wu, he served as General of Andong, commanding the garrison, and used a fake city to deceive the Wei army. Later he was the vanguard of Wu and killed Zhang Pu.
