History vs. fiction
The handling of the Luan clan is factual, but the intervention in Wei's internal affairs contains fictional details.
The Records of the Grand Historian, 'Hereditary House of Jin', records that after Duke Ping of Jin ascended the throne, he united the feudal lords to attack Qi and handled the Luan clan rebellion: 'In the eighth year, Duke Zhuang of Qi secretly sent Luan Cheng to Quwo... Quwo attacked Cheng, Cheng died, and the Luan clan was exterminated.' In the Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms, Chapter 65, based on these historical facts, adds the specific plot of Duke Ping of Jin sending troops to assist the Wei minister Sun Linfu: 'Linfu knew that Duke Xian would not let it go, so he attached the city of Qi to Jin... Duke Ping of Jin sent three hundred men to assist him. Sun Linfu had the Jin troops specifically guard the area of Maoshi.' This is the novel's supplementation of details regarding Duke Ping of Jin's intervention in the internal affairs of another state.
