History vs. fiction
In official history, he was a eunuch who manipulated power and destabilized the Shu Han government.
The Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Shu, Biography of Dong Yun records that Huang Hao was cunning and favored by the sovereign, and after Dong Yun's death, he monopolized court politics, causing Jiang Wei to fear Huang Hao's harm and not dare to return to Chengdu. The original text in the Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Shu, Biographies of Dong, Liu, Ma, Chen, Dong, and Lü: 「皓从黄门令为中常侍、奉车都尉，操弄威柄，终至覆国。」
The Records of the Three Kingdoms has no record of Huang Hao being dismembered. In the novel, Sima Zhao calls him a 'treacherous minister who harms the state' and has him dismembered, which is a dramatic addition by the author.
