A native of Qiao in Pei State, skilled in herbal medicine and acupuncture, he invented Mafei Powder and the Five Animals Exercise, and was later killed by Cao Cao. A practitioner of alchemy and medicine, he was recruited by Cao Cao.
In fiction · Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Hua Tuo was a divine physician of the late Eastern Han Dynasty, who once treated Zhou Tai and Sun Ce. When Guan Yu was struck by a poisoned arrow, Hua Tuo scraped the poison from his bone. Later, Cao Cao suffered from headaches, and Hua Tuo suggested opening his skull; Cao Cao suspected Hua Tuo of intending to harm him, so he imprisoned him and had him executed.
