History vs. fiction
Both official history and fiction record that Zhuge Liang appreciated Dong Jue as 'honest and capable', and he rose to the position of General Who Assists the State in the late Shu Han period.
The Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Shu, Biography of Dong Jue records that Zhuge Liang praised him for 'careful and precise thinking', and he later served as General Who Assists the State and concurrently managed the affairs of the Secretariat. The novel's account of his official titles and career matches the official history.
