The official Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Wu, Biography of Lu Xun contains no account of Lu Xun being trapped in the Eight Trigrams Formation. In the novel, Huang Chengyan leads Lu Xun out of the formation, a fictional addition that introduces supernatural elements.
