novel invention
The Records of the Grand Historian, Hereditary House of Qi Taigong, records him as the ancestor of military strategists, leading the vanguard to rout the Shang army at the Battle of Muye; there is absolutely no such thing as presiding over the Fengshen Bang or the magical battles between the Chan and Jie sects as in Investiture of the Gods.
Jiang Ziya
In official history, he is the founding minister of Qi and the ancestor of military strategists; in novels, he is portrayed as a Taoist master who descends the mountain to oversee the canonization of gods.
