Records of the Grand Historian, Annals of Yin, records that Di Yi was the son of King Tai Ding of Shang and established the youngest son Xin (King Zhou) as heir; the account in the first chapter of Investiture of the Gods about Di Yi entrusting the throne to Zi Shou is based on official history.
