A native of Huang County, Donglai, brave and skilled in archery. He first relied on Liu Yao, then submitted to Sun Ce, reaching the rank of Colonel of Jianchang. A Wu general, he guided the army together with Zu Lang. A famous general at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, he once fought against Sun Ce.

Taishi Ci was from Donglai. He once broke through the siege alone to seek help, and later returned to Liu Yao. After Liu Yao's defeat, Taishi Ci fought with Sun Ce, and after being captured, he surrendered because Sun Ce treated him generously. Thereafter, he became a general of Eastern Wu, was ordered to cut off Cao Cao's reinforcements at Hefei, and joined forces with Lu Xun. Later, he was hit by an arrow and died of severe wounds.
