In fiction · Journey to the West
Taibai Jinxing, a celestial official in the Heavenly Court, repeatedly carried out the Jade Emperor's orders to recruit Sun Wukong, suggesting to grant him the title of Great Sage Equal to Heaven. He also transformed into an old man to rescue Xuanzang, leaving a note to guide him; pleaded for Zhu Bajie, changing his punishment to banishment to the mortal world; guided Sun Wukong to seek the Bodhisattva Lingji, informed him of the demons in Lion Camel Ridge, and pointed out the origin of the rhinoceros spirits and the method to subdue them. He also appeared in the dreams of monks to deliver an edict mediating between Sun Wukong and Heavenly King Li.
