In fiction · Journey to the West
Thousand-Mile Eye is a heavenly general who, together with Wind-Hearing Ear, follows the Jade Emperor's decree to watch the golden light from outside the Southern Heavenly Gate. When Sun Wukong wreaks havoc in Heaven, Thousand-Mile Eye reports his origin to the Jade Emperor, helping Heaven understand the demon monkey's background.
History vs. fiction
The origins of Thousand-Mile Eye are completely different in the two books.

In Volume 089 of "Fengshen Yanyi", Qianliyan was originally a peach spirit named Gao Ming on Qipan Mountain. However, in Chapter 001 of "Journey to the West", Qianliyan is already a resident heavenly general, ordered by the Jade Emperor to observe the mortal world.
