In Records of the Grand Historian, the joint biography of Wei Bao and Peng Yue, the Grand Historian deeply analyzes Peng Yue's heroic psychology of still hoping to rise again after being captured and humiliated: "He had no other reason; his wisdom and strategy were extraordinary, and he only worried about losing his life. If he could obtain a small amount of power, he would rise like clouds and transform like dragons, wanting to meet his ambitions, and therefore he endured imprisonment without refusal." In History of Han, the joint biography of Han, Peng, Ying, Lu, and Wu places him among five non-imperial kings, with the overall comment: "All of them seized power through temporary expedients, achieved success by deception and force, and all obtained fiefs, facing south and calling themselves lords." This deletes Sima Qian's unique insight into Peng Yue's ambition of 'rising like clouds and transforming like dragons.'
