Official histories such as the 'Annals of Taizu, Volume 3' record: 'The military governor of Shannan East Circuit, Pan Mei, served as the commander, and the military training commissioner of Yingzhou, Cao Han, served as the vanguard commander, leading a hundred thousand troops out of Jingnan to attack Jiangnan. Before departing, [the emperor] summoned Cao Bin and Pan Mei and admonished them, saying: "On the day the city falls, be careful not to slaughter; if they resist desperately, then Li Yu's family must not be harmed." On the day Dingmao, Li Mu, the drafter of imperial edicts, was appointed as the envoy to Jiangnan.' The historical novel 'Chapter 47' also records this.
