Palace Secretary of Wu, taught Sun He calligraphy and arts. A renowned scholar who humbled himself to study under Zhao Da, but Zhao kept the method secret. A native of Kuaiji, rose to Grand Tutor of the Crown Prince, enfeoffed as Marquis of Duxiang.

A strategist of Eastern Wu, eloquent and persuasive. Before the Battle of Red Cliffs, he saw through Huang Gai's ruse of being beaten, and at Huang Gai's request delivered the false surrender letter, convincing Cao Cao. Later, with Gan Ning, he kept Cai He and Cai Zhong in check. During the Battle of Yiling, he strongly recommended Lu Xun as Grand Commander.
