History vs. fiction
Both history and the novel record King You deposing Yijiu and installing Bo Fu, but the Records does not state Bo Fu's fate; the novel adds that he was killed with his father.
The Records of the Grand Historian, 'Annals of Zhou', explicitly records King You deposing Queen Shen and Crown Prince Yijiu, then installing Bao Si and Bo Fu. It says the Quanrong killed King You and carried off Bao Si, but does not state Bo Fu's fate. Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms separately says the Quanrong also killed Bo Fu. The deposition and attack are historically recorded; Bo Fu's death is explicit only in the novel included here.
