The Records of the Grand Historian, 'Hereditary House of Zhao', records it very briefly, only noting: 'In the first year of King Daoxiang, greatly prepared against Wei.' The Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms, chapter 104, fills in the diplomatic details, depicting his forced decision to cede territory and compromise: 'It would be better for the king to cede five cities to Qin to expand the Hejian region. I will speak to my ruler to stop Zhang Tang's mission, break off relations with Yan, and make peace with Zhao.'
