Is “Promised to cede land to Qin” true?

The Records of the Grand Historian, in the chapter "Hereditary House of Jin," records that Yiwu once promised the Qin envoy that if he could successfully return to Jin and take the throne, he would cede eight cities west of the Yellow River in Jin to Qin in exchange for support. The novel retains the historical framework of his reneging on the promise after gaining the throne, not ceding the land, and killing Li Ke, but changes the specific number of cities promised to five cities north of the Yellow River. Although there is a discrepancy in the numerical detail, the evolution of the core events is entirely based on real history.
