Is “He was killed by Huang Zhong at the Battle of Mount Dingjun.” true?

The Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Shu, Biography of Huang Zhong records that Huang Zhong, taking advantage of the high ground at Dingjun Mountain, raised a clamor and launched a surprise attack on the Wei army, killing Xiahou Yuan in front of the battle lines—this is a well-established fact in official history. The original text in the Records of the Three Kingdoms, Book of Wei, Biographies of the Xiahou and Cao Families reads: 「渊遂战死。谥曰愍侯。」
