Did Zhou Gong Heijian ever command the left army to attack Zheng and was killed for plotting rebellion?
The Records of the Grand Historian, Annals of Zhou, and the Zuo Commentary clearly record the true deeds of Zhou Gong Heijian as a high-ranking official of the Zhou dynasty. The historical materials not only record his co-administration of state affairs with the Earl of Zheng and his participation as commander of the left army when King Huan of Zhou attacked Zheng, but also detail the complete series of historical events: 'When King Huan was about to die, he entrusted Prince Ke to Zhou Gong Heijian. In the third year of King Zhuang, Heijian wanted to kill King Zhuang and establish Ke. Xin Bo informed the king, and the king killed Zhou Gong Heijian.' The novel Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms faithfully reflects the official history in its description of him.
