History vs. fiction
The real Southern Song general in history ultimately became an accomplice to Qin Hui in framing Yue Fei.
History of Song, Biography of Zhang Jun records that Zhang Jun was once as famous as Yue Fei and Han Shizhong, but in the later period of the resistance against the Jin, in order to preserve his wealth and rank, he actively catered to Emperor Gaozong and Qin Hui's proposal for peace negotiations. He personally fabricated confessions and assisted Qin Hui in framing Zhang Xian for rebellion, thereby fabricating the unjust case against Yue Fei. The original text states: 「张俊归自楚州,与桧合谋挤飞,令禼劾飞对将佐言山阳不可守。」(History of Song, Biography of Treacherous Officials, Part Four)This record in the official history became the direct basis for later generations to cast a kneeling statue of Zhang Jun in front of Yue Fei's temple, permanently nailing him to the pillar of shame in history.
