  Historically, Yue Lin indeed existed. His deeds are recorded in sources such as the History of Song. For example, the biography of Yue Fei records: 'Lei, Loyal Instructor, Gentleman of the Imperial Gate, posthumously awarded Martial Strategy Gentleman. The Miao King said: "Is he not the Yue Fei who swept away the Jin troops at Zhuxian Town?" Yue Lin said: "Indeed." The Miao King said: "Which son of Marshal Yue are you, and why have you come here?" The young master said: "I am the fourth, named Yue Lin. My father and brothers were all framed by the treacherous minister Qin Hui; I fled here with my mother." Hearing this, the Miao King said: "So you are the son of Marshal Yue! I have been rude!" He then descended from his seat, released the bonds, and greeted the young master with a bow, seating him.'
