In fiction · Book of the Later Han
Yuan Wei held the position of Grand Tutor and was the uncle of Yuan Shao. After Dong Zhuo entered the capital, Yuan Wei sat with Dong Zhuo at a banquet and agreed with his proposal to depose and establish an emperor. When Dong Zhuo rebuked Yuan Shao for opposing the deposition, saying 'Your nephew is rude,' Yuan Wei was implicated as well. Later, as Dong Zhuo seized power, Yuan Wei was ultimately executed.
