In the 'Classic of Mountains and Seas: Classic of the Great Wilderness: South', a magnificent ancient mythological scene is depicted: 'Beyond the southeastern sea, between the Sweet Waters, there is the kingdom of Xihe. There is a woman named Xihe, who bathes the suns in the Sweet Spring. Xihe is the wife of Di Jun, and she gave birth to ten suns.' The identity of Xihe as the mother of the suns and the goddess who drives the sun chariot is consistently recorded in early mythological texts.
