The Four Heavenly Kings are Buddhist guardian deities who once, by Buddha's decree, participated in the siege against the Bull Demon King. While Sun Wukong and the Bull Demon King were locked in fierce battle, the Four Heavenly Kings led Buddhist soldiers and heavenly generals to spread a net of heaven and earth from all directions, cutting off the Bull Demon King's retreat, and ultimately helped the assembled deities capture him.
