Historical records of naming officials after birds.
The Records of the Grand Historian and pre-Qin historical sources detail the distinctive rule of the Shaohao clan. According to tradition, when Shaohao ascended the throne, a phoenix descended, so he based his calendar on birds, making bird officers and naming them after birds, using various bird names as official titles. This unique relic of ancient totem worship is universally acknowledged and consistently recorded in early texts. The Bamboo Annals, Current Edition, Annals of the Five Emperors, states: "或曰名清，不居帝位，帅鸟师，居西方，以鸟纪官。"
