Discrepancy in Qiu Yue's identity and fate
In official histories, Qiu Yue, during Emperor Lizong's reign, was appointed as 'Deputy Commissioner of the Two Huai Military Colonies' (History of Song, Emperor Lizong's Annals 3), and he also recommended talents. In the novel, he is set in Emperor Huizong's reign as 'Chief Instructor of the 800,000 Imperial Guards, Commander of the Left Guard Imperial Army, General Qiu Yue guarding the emperor.' When he accompanied Gao Qiu in a naval battle against Liangshan, he was cut down by Yang Lin, the Liangshan 'Panther', who 'with one slash cut Qiu Yue off the boat' (Water Margin, Chapter 80).
