In fiction · Journey to the West
Lianlian was transformed by the Old Mother of Mount Li, who set up a manor along the pilgrimage route to test Tang Sanzang and his disciples. She appeared with Zhenzhen and Aiai, tempting the four with beauty and wealth. Zhu Bajie, whose mortal heart was not yet extinguished, approached them and was tied up with ropes, looking disheveled. This was done to strengthen the faith of the pilgrimage team.
