Discrepancy in Li Ming's identity and death scene
The official history records that Li Ming resisted the Western Xia, 'the military governors Li Ming and Meng Qing were both killed by the Xia people' (History of Song, Foreign States 2); in the novel, he is set as the military inspector of Xuzhou, 'the banners recognized were Chenzhou military inspector Wu Bingyi and Xuzhou military inspector Li Ming', and when following Tong Guan to attack Liangshan, he was ambushed, 'Yang Zhi, quick with his hand, followed with a slash, cutting him right in the middle. Alas, Li Ming, a military officer for half his life, turned into a dream of Nanke' (Water Margin, Chapter 77).
