In fiction · Journey to the West
Kashyapa, a disciple of Tathagata, together with Ananda, was in charge of transmitting scriptures. When Tang Sanzang and his disciples arrived at Lingshan, the two led them to see the names of the scriptures and demanded gifts. Not receiving any, they gave them scriptures without words. Wukong noticed this and returned to exchange them. The two demanded gifts again, and Tang Sanzang then gave them the purple-gold alms bowl.
