In fiction · Journey to the West
Faming is the elder of Jinshan Temple. He rescued the abandoned infant Jiangliuer by the river and brought him back to the temple to raise. Jiangliuer grew up in the temple and later became a monk with the Dharma name Xuanzang. Faming's rescue and upbringing laid the foundation for Xuanzang's later journey to the West to fetch scriptures.
