In the Records of the Grand Historian, Chapter on the House of Chu, it is recorded that the name of King Kaolie of Chu was Xiong Yuan, as in 'Crown Prince Xiong Yuan succeeded to the throne, and this was King Kaolie'; in the Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Kingdoms, Chapter 96, it is recorded that his name was Xiong Wan, as in 'attending Crown Prince Xiong Wan, who was sent as a hostage to Qin to seek peace'.
