Where the histories differ
Official characterization and true concealment of Yang Juyuan's death
In the History of Song, Annals of Ningzong II, it is directly recorded: 'On Guiyou day, An Bing killed his staff officer Yang Juyuan.' But in the History of Song, Biographies of Chen Min, Zhang Zhao, Bi Zaiyu, An Bing, Yang Juyuan, and Li Haoyi, the process of the murder by An Bing's subordinates during escort is described in detail: 'The attendants immediately took a sharp knife and cut off his head, leaving less than an inch attached, and then reported to the Xuanfu Department that Yang Juyuan had committed suicide.' The two places differ in whether the court recorded it as an execution or as a false report of suicide at the time.
