In fiction · Journey to the West
Ai'ai was transformed by the Old Mother of Mount Li, who set up a scheme along the pilgrimage to test Tang Sanzang and his disciples. Together with Zhenzhen and Lianlian, she transformed into a beautiful woman, using the offer of marriage as bait to test the four pilgrims' devotion. Zhu Bajie, whose mortal desires were not yet extinguished, was tricked by her and ended up with a bloody head and a sorry state.
